Travel classes

IMTU, the three canon classes (low, middle, high) are replaced by a (slightly) more developed system:Staterooms come in three flavors: First Class costs 3500 Cr per jump (regardless of jump number) and gets you 8 dTon of living space (about 4 of those are your actual stateroom, the rest being used for lounge, gangways...) This is a luxurious way of traveling, with matching service, used by noble, managers and wealthy people, roughly comparable to real world airplanes First Class. Business Class costs 1750 Cr per jump and gets... [Lire la suite]

Vilani language

When making props for Traveler I like to make them bilingual Galanglic/Vilani. I've got two reasons: I am Belgian... And there is something cool about bilingual stuffs! Using alien writings on props puts the viewer in the right mood: it's not just a plain airplane ticket anymore, it becomes a starship ticket. Putting English (Galanglic I mean) next to it keeps the prop readable, otherwise they would be of little use for a role playing game... Some useful tools: Vilani Word Generator Vilani Grammar Sketch, includes... [Lire la suite]

Ranks & Insignia - Merchant Marine - Twin Suns Shipping, LIC

Ranks for the various department of Twin Suns Shipping, a merchant company inspired from the Azzameen family (spelled Azzamiin IMTU) from the Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance computer game... The purple and white of the ranks borders, for the engineering and purser's department, where those worn by those specialties when I was still at school (Antwerp Maritime Academy), however I'm not sure what tradition lies behind them, nor how international they may be. If anyone as references on the topic, he's most welcome...

Ranks & Insignia - Imperial Interstellar Scout Service (Security Branch) - Officers

I've read the Security men of the IISS use Army Ranks. IMTU they use Army insignia too. With the device in red to make them more scoutish and a black background to tie them more closely to the other imperial level services...

Ranks & Insignia - Solomani Navy - Officers

The first version of those was gold on black, like the IN ranks, the rationa being that like real world navies ranks are very much alike too. However some friends pointed the fact that some change would be welcome so I changed the devices to silver: in my opinion, the Solomani are the Nazi of Traveler, silver on black should suit them well...

Ranks & Insignia - Imperial Army - Officers

For those ones I choose not to use the US Army insignia as a base.   While the USN 'gold stripes and a star' scheme is an international one found in many navies around the world, with only few variation; the 'bar(s)/leaf/eagle' one is a very specific one found nowhere but in the US.   Instead I settled for a '1,2,3 then 1,2,3 again' scheme common to the UK and many other of the world armies.   Here is my take at Imperial Army rank insignia, in two flavors: full dress, and low dress/utility...
